Romanian-German minimal drum ‘n’ bass veteran, Engima, has dropped his rebellious new EP, Intelligence, out now on Fearless Audio.
The whole EP feels like an expedition. A 4-part drama. A quest for new intelligence. The exploratory astronaut in the artwork, our fearless drifter.
Opening track Vanguard blasts us off with an atmospheric build and the quest for new ideas – perhaps apt for the times in which we live and the problems our society faces today as a global community.
Martian gives us a sense that impending doom is heading our way and our band of heroes is about to embark on an all-too-important mission with the track heavily sampled with NASA-syle comms.
Our go-to track from the EP Regiment is the first track to feature vocals across a menacing dnb bassline and whether you’re a fan of the genre or not, this track will get you pumped no doubt.
Final track Flycatcher continues the momentum – a sense that this mission is to be continued with the lyrics “it’s all mad risky’ echoing out.
This is a stylish return to form for the project that burst onto the scene in the early 90s and, which follows the 2016 conceptual album The Fall Of A Rebel Angel.
Intelligence is for both the die-hard fanbase and to newcomers in minimal dnb – buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride.
