It has been a memorable few years for dance music sensation Wilkinson, including amassing over half a billion streams across his back catalog as well as being voted the world's number 1 D&B artist this year in terms of both streaming and ticket sales.
And the British electronic music giant is showing no signs of slowing down, with his highly anticipated fourth album entitled "Cognition" released on his Sleepless Music label. With its star-studded collaborations throughout (including Becky Hill and Issey Cross to name but a few), "Cognition" sees Wilkinson produce his most daring and progressive work to date. The 13-track album features five singles released so far, and the latest one is "Close Your Eyes", featuring UK singer-songwriter iiola.
Indie-pop artist iiola, who interestingly is also the partner of Wilkinson, started making music at 13 years old. The pair have already collaborated on the 2016 track "Pure" (Wilkinson produced and co-wrote), which was released under iiola birth name Shannon Saunders. She has slowly grown an impressive reputation and fanbase, in addition to being a firm favorite of 'BBC Introducing', and is currently in the process of writing her long-awaited debut album.
A climactic masterpiece, "Close Your Eyes" has Wilkinson's distinctive, powerful energy and permeates with fluttering synths, dance-provoking breakbeats, and exquisitely complimented by iiola's stunning vocals, a real highlight of an impressive album.
Regarding the track, Wilkinson said, "This was a super-fun one to work on, which I wrote with my partner Shannon [iiola] and Tom Havelock, with who I wrote 'Half Light' with. For me, this sums up the album in terms of the sonics and atmosphere I was trying to create. I kept the drums loose, so they have this kind of shuffle with lots of character, and the vocal has this kind of meditative narrative to it."
