Aurora - The Seed

Aurora - The Seed

'When the last tree has fallen/ And the rivers are poisoned/You cannot eat money, oh no/ Oh no', says the lyrics of Aurora's latest single and music video - 'The Seed'. The track is part of their new album A Different Kind of Human – Step 2. 'I'm missing anger in the youth', the Norwegian scandi-pop singer-songwriter has recently said, '...the kind of rage that wakes you up in the morning, the kind of rage that inspires you to do something with the power you have in you. So I made a song.'

With the powerful vocals of Aurora singing the melancholic melody over the electrifying tribal drums, 'The Seed' is undoubtedly an angry anthem criticizing the ongoing environmental degradation at the hands of us human beings. As it is clear from the quote at the beginning of the music video, the song is influenced by the indigenous Cree American saying that you cannot eat money. In terms of its musical character, 'The Seed' is a dark experimental synthpop number that generously uses choir-like choruses and heavy instrumental support to dramatize the song even more. Though there is a discernible influence of the early music of the Florence and the Machine and fellow Nordic musician Bjork, Aurora's newest single quite imaginatively blends elements of folk and indie rock genres with an experimental electropop sound.

The official music video, which was released last April on YouTube, is an extremely arty and elegant production that mainly features the artist singing and dancing to the beats of the drums. Just before it ends, the video poignantly intermixes a series of clips showing the slow transformations occurring in the natural world on a regular basis. It is here that the unconventional soundscape of the track also accommodates natural ambient sounds like ice breaking, thunderstorms, etc, and emerges as a very powerful 'cry for the mother earth'.
