D'Sound - Mr. Unicorn (Official Music Video)

D'Sound

Last January, D'Sound released the official music video of their track 'Mr. Unicorn', the song which was one of the final ten contenders in the Melodi Grand Prix held for selecting the Norwegian entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Directed by  Frederic Esnault, the music video features an old, lonely innovator and his sad-looking robot along with the members of the band. By the end of the song, the robot, programmed and controlled by the lonely innovator, breaks free of his master's control and joins the band in singing and dancing to the track.

The music video is beautifully dystopic and fun to watch. 'You make me see different colors/ Want you to know, something inside you drives me crazy' sings Mirjam Omdal in her ethereal voice, the vibrant neons in the video and its futuristic aesthetics surely don't disappoint the viewer either. While the video shows a robot liberating itself from the bondage of the programmer, the lyrics of the song narrates the story of a guy named Charlie who could never conform to the norms of society and was thus unpopular. The girl in the song assures Charlie that she loves him for that very reason, for 'he is brave enough to stand out. She tells him that he's unique - he's her Mr. Unicorn.

In a recent interview, D'Sound has revealed that the lyrics were inspired by Mirjam's own personal experiences from the early days. The track is a cool and funky dance-pop number produced by Magnify. It has a rhythm that is quite hypnotic. A strong influence of Daft Punk and electropop genres is very clear in the musical arrangement. Though it failed to make it into the final selection for the Eurovision contest, the song has lots of potentials and the music video promises a nice experience to the viewer.
