Everything But The Girl - Caution To The Wind

Everything But The Girl

Renowned band Everything But The Girl earlier this year released the  track "Caution To The Wind," along with a lyric video. The track is a part of their most recent album Fuse. Fuse was was released  through Buzzin' Fly and Virgin Records. It is their first studio album in almost 24 years following Temperamental.

Caution To The Wind" - Capturing a Timeless Moment

Tracey Thorn, one member of the duo, characterizes "Caution To The Wind" as a straightforward song focusing on seizing the moment and arriving at a destination. The band aimed to encapsulate the feeling of an everlasting moment in time through their music. Ben Watt, the other member of the duo, shares that the lyrics swiftly intertwine and cycle within the production, fostering a sense of anticipation and release. He compares the sensation to the classic exhilaration and tension experienced in nightclubs.

Creating "Fuse"

Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn crafted and produced Fuse throughout the spring and summer of 2021. The album represents a fresh take on the electronic soul genre that Everything But The Girl first introduced in the mid-90s. Thorn's emotive and deeply textured voice is showcased in Watt's gleaming soundscape of deep bass, crisp beats, dimly lit synths, and vacant space. The outcome is a sound that is both modern and timelessly faithful to the band's core identity.

Covert Recording Sessions

The duo recorded Fuse clandestinely, both at home and in a secluded riverside studio near Bath, with assistance from their friend and sound engineer Bruno Ellingham. During the initial two months, the album files bore the artist name TREN (Tracey and Ben). Early recording sessions centered on ambient sound collages and impromptu spectral piano loops captured by Ben on his iPhone amid pandemic-induced isolation. These preliminary ideas later developed into atmospheric tracks, such as "When You Mess Up" and "Interior Space."

The Preceding Hit: "Nothing Left To Lose"

"Caution To The Wind" comes after the band's previous single, "Nothing Left To Lose," which garnered praise from long-standing fans and newcomers alike. The track has amassed over one million streams on Spotify, while its music video has been viewed more than one million times on YouTube.

Conclusion

The return of Everything But The Girl with "Caution To The Wind" and  album Fuse is sure to be a thrilling experience for fans who have longed for their distinctive sound. As the band continues to progress and experiment with their music, they remain dedicated to preserving their roots. With the release of Fuse fast approaching, the excitement surrounding what Everything But The Girl has to offer is undoubtedly growing.
