Even in their twenty-second year of existence, the Icelandic electronic band Gus Gus continues to surprise their fans. Released on 13 May this year, the official music video of 'Fireworks', from their latest and tenth album Lies Are More Flexible, is absolutely fun to watch. An out-and-out progressive dance number, which the band is best known for, 'Fireworks' is beautifully choreographed by the talented Unnur Elisabet Gunnarsdottir. The video is directed by Kitty Von-Sometime and shot by Hakon Sverrisson. With Daniel Agust's ethereal vocals and Biggi Viera's experimental sound design, the music is trippy, sensual, and euphoric. With this new track, Gus Gus once again proves that they remain committed to exploring new horizons of techno or electronic music.
According to one critic, 'Fireworks' is a classy yet surprisingly fresh piece of electronic music where 'the chosen riff oscillates through different, open-ended harmonies, Ágúst “reaching out for the twilight” in his distant vocal'. The upbeat synth stabs certainly add to the groovy soundscape of the track. The influences of Euro or Italo disco, progressive house, synth-pop, and ambient are very clear in the song. If you are looking for a club dance number, this is undoubtedly a perfect choice. With the lively tempo, rhythmic loops, and bouncy geometric grooves - it is really hard not to dance to 'Fireworks'. The dynamic choreography in the music video fully compliments the progressive, experimental sound of the song. The dance moves are cool and the energy is really infectious. 'Blowing up with the firework/every day is royal', the lyrics say. The fireworks in the music video, designed and executed by the pyro team under Guony Osk Ardal, certainly create some majestic visuals for the track. The gorgeous visuals and the highly spirited motions in the video do absolute justice to the psychedelic sonic world created by Gus Gus. Watching '
'Fireworks' can certainly make your 'Emotions run high'. The music video is a visual-aural treat that you'd never want to miss.
