Caravan Palace is a French electronic swing band hailing from Paris, France. Relative veterans of the music industry, having released four albums to date, spanning a 13-year career. Caravan Palace is an amalgam of different genres, including soul, r&B, jazz, and Bossanova. Which collide exquisitely with more modern influences, such as electronic swing, hip-hop, house, trip-hop and future bass. The result is an eccentric and joyful listening experience.
The arguable pinnacle of the group's artistic output is the track "Miracle". It is a dreamy-pop journey with heavy middle-east vibes that sees Caravan Palace shift away from their heavy swing sound to a more pop-friendly one.
The song offers an inspired call for listeners to disconnect from technology and view life with optimism. "Miracle" encourages the audience to make a change and get involved with the people around them because we are all humans, just trying to make sense of this crazy world. With humanistic, uplifting and rallying lyrics throughout (which any listener can relate to), especially on the chorus:
"(Act like a brother) Every day is a miracle (Help one another)/ Connect back with the people(Give it to your lover)/ And all the people you miss (Let's go already)(Act like a brother)/Don't think you're invisible (Help one another)."
"Miracle" is a unique, immersive and empowering listening encounter, and its creative yield doesn't end there.
The video accompanying the track (directed by Double Ninja) is a surreal and sensual visual experience. It's rather hard to fully describe the videos, in part due to it's multifaceted nature. But in summary, it's an extraordinary animated storybook that examines sexual desire, femininity, and eroticism, all while taking the watcher along a twisting tale of blossoming flower vaginas mystical intergalactic Aztecs—a social commentary on the hyper-sexualised manner in which women are depicted in modern society. The video shows a world in which empowered women hold power over men. Double Ninja's strong artistic direction remarkably guides the video, with its vibrant set designs (think of like an 18+ version of the 'The Jungle Book') and clever narrative.
